AmazonBasics Holster Camera Case for DSLR Cameras - Black

AmazonBasics Holster Camera Case for DSLR Cameras - Black

This bag is about half the cost of the Tamrac (my favourite) or Lowepro equivalent. It's roomy enough to fit my beloved-but-ancient D200 with a kit lens (Nikkor 18~70mm) even when I have the lens hood on - pretty much all the time. The pockets are shallow, can't fit my datebook, but they will easily hold a spare battery and CF memory cards. The strap, as one reviewer mentioned, is the weakest point. It's cheap (plastic fittings unlike Tamrac's steel fittings) and I probably will replace it. Also, unlike the more expensive holsters there are no rear straps so this cannot be worn on a belt. All said and done - it's $20. For that price it's hard to complain. It's not a Tamrac but I like it. One nice feature is the plastic bottom. The case stands upright thanks to the base.

Just recently bought a Canon camera and needed a bag, but didn't want to get a super expensive one. This is actually a really nice camera bag - I was surprised with the quality for the price. There is definitely enough room for the camera itself with the lens still attached. I gently wrap the camera strap around the lens for extra protection because I am weird like that!. It's "snug" in the compartment, but still fits great. It is as compact as I can get a case that fits everything. Plus, the strap on this bag is super nice to through over your shoulder for walking or even across your body for hiking. It is easily accessed - just unzip, pull out the camera, aim, and shoot!

It has two side pockets, plus a large front pocket. These extra pockets can be used for anything! Sometime I put money, chapstick, extra battery, extra memory cards, etc. The plastic bottom "cup" of the bag allows it to stand upright. The back part of this bag that is closest to your body has padded mesh, like a backpack. The quality is superb and I HIGHLY recommend it.

I ordered the Nikon holster case for my P1000 over a month ago and it is still back-ordered so I ordered the Amazon holster case and it fits perfect !

UPDATE: I've used this case for just over 3 years now and it is holding up perfectly. I really like this case since it is minimalistic and has proven to be very durable. It is just as good today in every way as it was 3 years ago when I first acquired it.

This is a very nicely made case for your DSLR. I'm completely happy with the quality of construction and padded protection this provides my Nikon D300. It's the perfect size when I want to grab my DSLR and not be burdened with extra lenses and all the other stuff that I normally would have with me using a larger camera bag.

The depth of the case is 7.5" enabling me to fit my D300, and attached battery pack with my 17-55 f2.8 lens. It's a tad tight closing the top zippered lid, but it does fit and that's very nice. If I were to remove the battery pack, it would fit very comfortably with a little wiggle room.

The case has an extremely durable bottom piece that is about 1 inch tall and is a solid plastic base. This cushions and protects the DSLR case from water infiltration if you were to set your case on the ground.

There are 3 outside pockets. The left and right zippered pockets are marginally useful. They do not expand at all and have little volume but are suitable for lens cleaning cloths, lens filters or something thin. The front pocket is way more useful and has enough room to put in several smaller items. It has a elasticized back nylon mesh panel that you could throw a couple memory cards into as well as two dedicated memory card (SD) pockets with velcro closure on the front inside panel.

A comfortably padded and suitably wide shoulder strap is included.

What a great case this is. Very functional, comfortable to carry and just the right amount of space to easily carry a DSLR, decent sized lens plus a few odds and ends.

It's a great price and seems to be of the highest quality. I expect this will provide years of good service.

If you're looking for something that will hold more gear but is still very easy to carry check out the AmazonBasics Backpack for SLR Cameras and Accessories-Black that I have reviewed here http://www.amazon.com/review/R168VTS3JFPB86

A surprisingly good-for-the-price, minimalist dSLR bag, *IF* you have a mid-sized camera or smaller.

It has a cradle-like support system, a hardened end on which the bag can be balanced, and several small pockets. All for less than the price of a cheap filter.

My specific need was for something less bulky than my old go-to, the Case Logic SLRC-205 Camera Sling (which is already pretty stream-lined). Essentially I wanted something without extra compartments or loose material, that looked less like a backpack.
I also tried the LowePro TopLoader Zoom-- the smaller one was too small, the larger one was just as large as the Caselogic. The LowePro (pictured) is a actually a great choice if you're carrying a larger camera or a long lens. But too big for my purposes.

Positives:
* Very compact, barely larger than the camera. Doesn't add much weight.
* Adjustable divider (velcro) which supports the weight of the camera (so it doesn't rest on the end of the lens).
* Hardened end-cap. Stands upright.
* Good zipper action.
* Strap has a shoulder pad.
* Large enough for a mid-sized camera with a mid-length lens.
* Pockets will hold small essentials (spare battery, spare cards, cleaning cloth, etc)
* Handle on the cover for easy pick-up.

Negatives:
* The bag *jangles* as you walk. The zipper tabs need to be rubberized, or should be only one per pocket.
* The pockets are very tight with the camera in the bag. They won't hold a standard sized ballpoint pen or small powerbank. A coiled USB cable barely fits. Expandable pockets would fix this without making a bigger bag.
* Strap isn't very comfortable, and the shoulder pad moves around, making it useless.
* Could be a half-inch wider to accommodate additional camera models.

The big limit of this Amazon Basics bag is width. My Canon 7DMK2 barely fit, a full-frame dSLR will not fit. Length-wise, it easily accommodated the lens pictured (35mm L) and would take up to a 24-105 or 24-70, but probably nothing longer.

Pictured: The large LowePro holster Toploader Zoom 55 AW II (L), a Canon 7DMk2 with 35mm L lens attached, and this Amazon Basics holster (R). The 7DMk2 is a mid-size crop DSLR , and the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L is a substantial short lens.

While it's not perfect, at this price point, the design is excellent. Recommended.

Description

AmazonBasics SLR Holster Camera Case (Black) An Amazon Brand.

I purchased this item to fit in another bag as an option to protect my 6d markII. The camera fits perfectly inside but there will not be room for anything else. The 6d markii fits perfectly using the 24-105L. This is great for someone looking to not carry around their camera in hand while on vacation and they don't want to carry around a large camera backpack.

Overall, the quality of this item seems good. The additional protection on the bottom of the case is nice to have as it will provide some degree of protection should you put it on a wet surface. Also, the additional pockets on the case itself are a nice bonus in order to store memory cards, batteries, and other items

This is that rare holster case that will handle a DSLR with attached battery handle. I'm a working journalist, and there are times when I want to head out with just my camera and a versatile lens--not my whole kit of lenses, strobes, filters, and the like. I've been on the outlook for a simple, affordable case that would carry and protect my Nikon D7200 with battery handle installed for long shoots and portrait/landscape versatility. This case comfortably holds the Nikon with a Tamron 16-300 (my do-it-all fave) and lens hood attached. (See photo.) Be clever with the velcro inserts, and you could easily accommodate a smaller DSLR without the battery handle and have room for an extra lens. A GREAT CASE!

Time will tell, but my impression is this is a rugged, well padded case for our new Nikon DSLR. It is much larger than the CaseLogic case we had for our old D40. With just our 35mm prime lens on, the camera disappears into the depths of the case.. But at least we have the option of storing with our 55-200 zoom lens on. The firm, waterproof rubber base lets you set the bag down almost anywhere. The front pocket is a bit small but enough to stow the charger and a USB card reader. The price is competitive with the anonymous Chinese cases on eBay, and the quality of the Amazon bag is overall excellent. I had the pleasure of using it this weekend and I'm glad I got it.

In this review I'll be comparing the AmazonBasics case to the Case Logic SLRC-201 SLR Zoom Holster (Black) which is identical in design but a few bucks more.

Ways in which the Amazon is better:
It fits my camera, Canon 6D with 24-105mm f4L lens, better than the Case Logic. The amazon has a bigger (length and width) opening, so there is still room above the camera to tuck the camera strap in. In the case logic the opening is very tight making it hard to tuck the strap in anywhere but on top of the LCD. The amazon also holds the camera better with the velcro internal straps. You can move the straps around to fit your camera just right. With my camera in the Case Logic, it didn't fit in the "suspension" system, so I had to use the case without the suspension which I didn't like because it puts the force on the front of the lens when the case is in a downward (normal) position. The extra space on the Amazon is also important because it makes it easier to quickly take out the camera without much fuss. The case logic takes more effort because the camera is really snugly in the case.

SD card pockets that close. This makes me feel safer knowing my cards are in individually sized velcro-closed pockets, inside a bigger zippered pocket. On the case logic, the spot for a card is in a small mesh pocket that doesn't secure it as well.

Ways in which the Case Logic is better:
If you have a smaller dSLR, the case logic suspension system works well. It makes it easy to quickly take out the camera since the camera sits on top, and it keeps it safe, putting the force on the body of the camera and not the lens.

The side pockets are bigger. On the Case Logic I can fit my filter in its square case in the pocket. It is just a drop too big on the amazon.

The strap! The attachment loops on the Case Logic are made of sturdy fabric, I could see them taking lots of force. The amazon loops are made of cheap plastic! The strap itself is also flimsier on the amazon! The clip is pathetic! I am considering buying a separate replacement strap already.

Minor detail but the waterproof base is bigger and sturdier on the case logic. The amazon one doesn't feet as well structured.

Bottom line: the amazon one fits my camera better thanks to the velcro straps and keeps my sd cards safe, so I'm sticking with it. Have a small dSLR? get the Case Logic. Canon 5D or 6D? Get the amazon but be careful with the flimsy straps.

I'm not that familiar with AmazonBasics products -- I believe this is the first such product I've purchased from Amazon. But if the quality of this camera case is any indication, I may have to try more such items in the future! This case is surprisingly well made of high-quality materials and will hold even a large DSLR camera with a lens attached. I use it for a Sony a6000 with a Sony 18-105mm G-type zoom lens attached, and it still has plenty of room inside for a wide camera strap as well. It has two side pouches for accessories and is well-padded all around. The hard, shock-proof plastic end-cap surrounding the narrow end of the case does a good job of protecting the lens resting inside. Highly recommended!
