I purchased an Otter Box Defender when I first purchased my phone in November of 2014. After three plus years of wear and tear, which includes letting 10 grandchildren play with it, carrying it around helping with farm work, and the two year old hurling it across the room on several occasions, it kept my iPhone well protected. The silicone did start to peel, and the Home button cover tore off, so it was definitely time for a new Defender.
The new Defender is made of slightly different outer material, which is not as soft, so hopefully won’t shred/peel anytime soon. The interior shell is slightly tighter, as well, which makes it a pain for my small hands to pry it apart, but is probably more protective because of it! So overall, this new Defender is definitely lighter weight!
The only bummer is that I prefer a BlackWeb 5 ft metal encased lightening cord, and the opening on this new Defender is too small for the BlackWeb to plug into. It was fine on the old Defender, so such a bummer.
I purchased the "OtterBox DEFENDER iPhone 6/6s - Frustration-Free packaging - INDIGO HARBOR (Royal Blue/Admiral Blue)" back in March 2016, so I figured it was time to write a review. I bought this case for my iPhone 6s. I'm very satisfied with this purchase and I can't imagine not having an otterbox defender case to protect my iPhone 6s.
-> You do sacrifice the sleekness of your iPhone but I think it's worth it.
-> The indigo color is OK. I wish I purchased the all black case instead.
-> I've dropped my phone multiple times but maybe 4-5 times with hard impact on concrete and tiles. The otterbox defender stayed solid and didn't damage my iPhone.
-> The screen plastic protector does the job because I can't tell you how many times I've carelessly placed my phone in my bag/purse, still without a scratch.
-> The touch response on the screen protector is good.
-> I didn't have a problem with accessing the audio jack and the charging connection. The volume buttons works fine.
I highly recommend the otterbox defender for those who want to protect their investment because we all know iPhones are not cheap!
I purchased this product for my new iPhone 6S back in April. I haven't really put it to the test with it's protection until today. Today, I got into my car in a hurry, very excited to get home after a very long day. I was about 3 miles down the road when I heard a clunk and I looked in my rearview mirror to see my beautiful teal otterbox encasing my spiffy iPhone 6S flying through the air. My heart dropped. I sped down the road, turned around, and flew back to the area of what I thought would be my sweet phone's grave. I glimpsed a hint of teal and slammed on my brakes with the hazard lights ablaze. I ran back down the road, dodging and directing traffic. To my surprise, the phone was face down in the road, but it was singing my ring tone. I thought, "For sure, the screen is broken even though it still manages to have sound?" I picked up that phone... unshattered, unscathed and was able to answer that phone call. Which happened to be a friend going the same way wondering why I was running around in the road. Anyway, I give this product 5 stars. I would give it 10 if I could because I really could not afford another 500 dollar phone today (I didn't opt for that insurance) and thanks to otterbox, I don't have to worry!
This will be my 4th or 5th Otterbox case, for both iPads and iPhones, and while every other member of my family (using other cases) has cracked (or smashed) a phone, I never have! These cases are sometimes criticized for being clunky, but they are certainly functional, and if preventing breakage of $600+ devices is not the whole point, I don’t know what is. Furthermore, I LIKE the fact that this rubberized case is “sticky.” I can put it on my car seat or even dashboard, and it stays where I put it. I recently tried one of those dashboard phone holders, which attach to vent fans, and broke a fin (which is not cheap to fix on a BMW), so have decided not to use them again, and I recently bought an Apple case, which was (leather and) beautiful, but did NOT stay where I put it (is was slippery)! I now have an extra Apple case which cost $60, which I don’t use. These Otterbox cases again, being “sticky,” stay put. So even after using several of these cases for several years, I won’t use anything else... These are great, truly functional cases.
update: THIS Otterbox case has developed a minor problem, for which there seems to be no solution. I noticed that there seemed to be a small amount of water between the case screen and the phone screen. I had seen this before, when a little rain splashed on the case, and some got in through the camera lens opening. It causes dark patches on the screen. So, I removed the case, and although I could not see any moistire, I dried both surfaces carefully and thoroughly with a cotton cloth, and put the case back on the phone, however, the dark patches were still there! So I did the same thing AGAIN, this time with detergent on the cloth, in case the offending agent was some kind of oil, and put it back together, and guess what? NO CHANGE! So, just in case I left some detergent on one of the parts, I did it yet AGAIN, this time with pure water, dried it thoroughly, and put it all back together. I AM STILL GETTING THESE DARK PATCHES ON THE SCREEN, which look exactly like there is water between the case screen film and the phone! The cause must be a physical interaction between the very smooth surface of the phone and the similarly smooth-to-a-fault inner surface of the case screen film...
This is not a VERY serious problem, but it is certainly annoying! My otherwise perfectly functioning case is now giving the appearence of having water inside of the case. I am not exactly pleased, but I like this case otherwise, so I will knock the rating down just one star, to 4 stars.
I had used an almost identical Otterbox case for at least 3 years on my iPhone 4s - and I loved it and had no problems with it. This Otter for my new iPhone 6s was a problem as the built in screen protector did not fit flush to the screen of the phone. That made typing on the screen a nightmare, especially the keys in the corners. I really didn't feel like jumping through the return hoops so I removed the screen protector from the new case and put a glass screen protector on the phone and reinstalled the new case. The big problem with this procedure was removing all of the adhesive left on the inner part of the new case that had held the screen on. The removal of the adhesive was quite a job. I actually like the glass screen protector better than the built in screen protector on my old phone. I'm not sure I would solve this problem in the same manner if I had it to do over again but...... I really like the Otter case for my 6s but the built in screen protector was a big problem.

Description
The OtterBox Defender Series case for Apple iPhone 6/6s provides heavy duty protection against drops, dust and damage without taking away from the usability of your phone's features. The Defender Series case offers triple-layer protection and is built from a high-impact polycarbonate shell, durable silicone slipcover and a built-in screen protector, making it one of the toughest cases on the market. Why else do you think we called it the Defender Series?
After losing an iphone to a nasty fall that broke the home button (and discovering how vital that component is to the rest of the phone... literally it was the Achilles' heel of my previously indestructible phone), I decided to invest in the strongest case for my new iphone. So far, this case is working nicely, it's not even as bulky as I thought it would be, and I haven't experienced any of the fog up issues other reviewers have commented about with the plastic screen protector. My guess is because it's currently hot where I live... but if it does start fogging up come winter, I'll just cut out the screen protector and purchase a separate one. I love the durable quality of the case, and was surprised to find out that the apple logo on the back is also protected. There is a plastic laminate over that area that keeps it from getting scratched as well. Also love that this case will not get dirty like other cases I've owned. I can tell that I'll be able to get a long use out of this case.
I ordered this case from Amazon the day before I purchased a new iPhone 6S, and was pleasantly surprised at how much lighter & slimmer it is than the Defender case I used on my old iPhone 4S. The clip-on hard plastic holster also seems a little tougher than the previous version; the old one had to be replaced several times because the clip snagged something & cracked off, while the current holster has snagged a few times (mainly in the seat belt when I exit my car) and the worst that's happened was it popped off my belt once without any damage. The phone case itself is easy to hold and provides very good protection from falls & scratches. The rubber tabs that cover the docking port , earphone jack, and mute/vibrate switch do an excellent job of staying closed without being overly difficult to open; I'm especially happy that the earphone jack cover lines up properly (it did NOT on the 4S case), while the cover for the docking port doesn't seem to be trying to force the power/synch cable out of the port (another problem with the older 4S version of the Defender). The only complaint I have is that the bevel around the screen can get in the way when playing some games or when trying to drag app icons between screens if my finger's not at the right angle -- but it's such a minor problem that I'm not subtracting any stars because of it. This case also doesn't add as much weight or bulk to the 6S as its predecessor did to the 4S -- all in all, I'm a happy camper with this one!
I had a defender case for my 3GS and 4s and loved them. He touch response was fantastic and my phone looked brand new till I upgraded, even Apple employees were impressed with their appearance. I moved on to a lifeproof for my 6s due to the initial reviews of the new defender. The lifeproof was nice but didn’t last long so I came back to the defender. Overall I am happy with the quality and touch response.
I feel like the rubber flap over ports and silence switch will eventually rip. Especially the charging port cover. It has signs of wrinkles from being held open when charging, which ca be seen in the photo.
The other aspect I am not completely happy with is the secondary “plastic” the covers the home button. Touch response is fine but it was layed on top of the main screen protector. This means the edge is easily felt and has small nicks that I worry could lead to it peeling off.
I bought this from Warehouse Deals and it was just as advertised - “used - like new”. Otterbox is mostly about protection and less about style. There are plenty of more stylish and sleek cases. I think of my Otterbox as an armored car for my phone. The phone is so totally encased that the design of the phone is unrecognizable. However, I am confident that the phone would survive a drop on concrete. The built in screen protector fits precisely and the fingerprint id works through the thin plastic film that covers it. The case is rather thick, so placing it in a tight pants pocket is not easy. Wearing the phone on the belt holster is convenient but certainly not very “cool” looking. So, it is what it is - an armored car, not a sports car.
I bought this case because I have a tendency to drop my phone. I wanted drop protection for the screen and corners.
Pros:
-I like the the feel of the case and the color is great. The color is a bright red. The material is almost rubbery, which helps it not slide around or off of things
-This case comes with a screen protector. There is no need to buy one separately.
-I have dropped my phone from a counter height distance and there was no cracks.
-Port covers seem sturdy and I don't have any fear of them breaking on anytime soon. My charger still fits perfectly. I have yet to try headphones.
-The speaker is not muffled and I didn't lose any sound quality.
-Price for an Otterbox is great.
Cons:
-It is rather difficult to get the case open to put the phone in it or clean it. I had to have my fix all husband do it for me.
-The case had a bluish tint from keeping my phone in my jeans pockets. The fabric dyes the case. It looks faded and dingy, so if you want a case for looks this probably isn't the best one for you.
-I have noticed sometimes I have to press harder or multiple times to do certain things on my phone, because of the screen protector. It's not that often so doesn't bother me.
-Dust and particles do get trapped under the screen protector and now I have a new scratch on the screen. I know it was this case, becuase I had just had my screen repaired. I should probably clean it more, but it is so hard to open the case.
I am giving a 4 star review because the case has served the purpose of why I needed it. Aesthetics don't bother me, so the protection outweighs the fading and color transfer issues. I would buy this case again.
