Pelican 1510 Case With Padded Dividers (Black)

Pelican 1510 Case With Padded Dividers (Black)

Pelican 1510 Case With Padded Dividers (Black)

This product deserves 5++ stars. Pelican makes phenomenal cases, 2nd to none. Materials and workmanship are unmatched. Bought my 1510 carry-on case in '11. Since then it's gone through a lot of abuse. I use it on all my distance travels as well as everyday commute to work on bus/train. If you ignore external scrapes and bruises, it is still as tough and functional as the day I bought it. The seals still keep contents dry in in heaviest of rain. Latches, handles, wheels - all original and fully functional [wheel bearings need oil/grease and occasional replacement now and then depending on use and wear]. On one occasion I stumbled at the top of metro escalator and lost hold of the case. It tumbled down 100' of metal stairs - contents no worse for wear. I modified/relocated the holes for the wheel-axles in the plastic housing so that I get 1/3" more clearance between ground and lower edge of case (see photo). This also gives my wheels a little longer wear life. The company has been excellent. They sent me new wheels and components free of charge because of wearing. The low ground clearance is because the company is trying to maximize the usable volume while strictly keeping within airlines' carry-on guidelines. Both top and side grip handles are useful - mine gets more use from the top handle. The pull handle is extremely sturdy, much more so than traditional collapsible aluminum tubes. It is one solid thick/wide piece of plastic that uses gravity to fully retract easily - it has never failed me once. The only additional feature I wish the case had are loops for shoulder strap clips - heavy rain, sleet, snow and debris makes it difficult to pull with its small wheels and low clearance. Due to Pelican's sturdy construction and materials, you can expect it to be heavier than comparable soft-shelled carry-ons but that's the price for additional protection. It fits under most medium to large airlines seats and into overhead bins - only tiny puddle jumpers present problems. Despite the small wheels and low clearance it's still an excellent product and very highly recommended. I would not hesitate to buy more of their products.

Excellent case for traveling Photographer. I got the one with the padded dividers and it held two cameras, multiple lenses: 70-200mm, 24-70mm, 50mm, 24mm, two battery chargers, two flashes, cleaning gear, full size tripod, flexible tripod and other gear. Tight fit for all that gear, but was allowed to use as a carry-on on United Air Lines. (And is sturdy enough to have checked it as regular luggage without any worries about damage.)

Suggestion #1: Get the lid organizer.

Great for batteries, swabs, cables, etc.

Suggestion #2: Get some TSA Approved cable luggage locks.
TSA Approved Cable Luggage Locks, Easy Read Dials with Alloy Body https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NAOEBZ0/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_2
I got the ones that had the internal looped length of 1.5in when locked
(See my review on these, perfect size for this Pelican case.)

Suggestion #3: Yes this case holds a bunch of gear and keeps it safe from damage, but, do you really want to tote this BOX everywhere?
As an alternative, you can take the padded dividers out, put your gear in a (padded) photographers backpack, then put the backpack in the Pelican. Now you have your gear well protected against damage during flights/travel by the Pelican case AND have a back pack to carry just the items you need when you go out site seeing (And the LOCKED Pelican case back at the hotel is keeping your gear safe & secure).

Excellent case! I can fit most of my bodies and lenses plus some other gear. I also bought the lid organizer to add extra space. There a few complaints about the weight, but I really don't mind it. I carry this thing around all day while shooting weddings and don't have much gripes; maybe I'm just used to it. The case is very sturdy! I bang this thing around and there are only a few scratches. It also makes for a great seat or step stool. I have had to stand on in situations where I forgot to bring my step ladder.

So what all can I fit in the case?

Nikon D700 with vertical grip, Nikon D90 with vertical grip, nikon 50mm 1.8 D, nikon 105mm 2.8 micro, nikon 24-70 2.8, nikon 85 1.4, nikon 70-200 2.8 VR II, Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, Yongnuo Flash, SB-600, Batteries, memory cards, cables, snacks, business cards, Gels, Single-side Spider holster, and a camera rain jacket. (Photo doesn't show all of the stuff as some of it just lays on top of all camera gear.)

Great hardcase, with a few minor design issues.

PRO:
-Padded dividers work fairly well at protecting camera equipment.
-Shell is known-good Pelican design, will outlast the owner.
-Wheels roll smoothly.
-Handles on two different orientations allow comfortably carrying or lifting.
-Lid foam and dividers are NOT glued in place, can be replaced quickly and easy. Friction holds them in place.
-Stainless Steel reinforcement around lock tabs.
-Double-throw latches are easy to open or close.

CON:
-Divider system has 2 specific sizes of dividers, and a central spine. You are limited to using them specifically as Pelican intended.
-Insufficient dividers to protect many smaller lenses.
-Dividers only have hook surfaces, and must be connected to central spine, floor, or inner walls. Cannot be connected to one another. (A major design improvement would be to make the dividers out of the soft loop-side material, so any divider could connect to any other surface, including other dividers.)
-Dividers come basically tossed into case, need to be assembled by user before use.
-If top foam is removed, say, to install the top organizer (Pelican part number 1515), the no protection is offered on the top. (A thin layer of closed-cell foam could have been placed there to afford a small amount of protection.)
-Wheeling / drag handle is wobbly when deployed.
-Case is very heavy and may be over your airline's carry-on weight limit even when empty.
-Wheels and handle occupy a small amount of internal space, and dividers do not provide padding over those spaces. Be sure your equipment doesn't contact there.

Carries my GH5, GX85, Canon 6D, GoPro Hero 5, x5 Lenses, x2 Lens Hoods, Charging Cables, x6 Lens Filters, Ipad Mini 3, SD card-pack, x3 step up rings, x3 gear rings, camera blower with mini cleaning cloth/solution...

I live in Tampa FL where it rains every other day... Snaps shut hard & keeps the rain out. I replaced the wheels with rollerblade wheels so it doesn't vibrate the heck out of my equipment when using the arm to pull it behind me and I use zip-ties on the lock-holes when carrying by handle to ensure no clasping mistakes (which can happen with any case with clasps).

This is a well built hard case for your dslr and lenses and whatever else you may have! It holds my two dslr bodies, 4 lenses, 2 flashes, and room for extra accessories in te left over pockets. I also bought the netted pockets that screws in the inside lid of the case and that holds all of the smaller accessories you may have. Check out the photos below! My only problem with the case is that the oull out handle is really flimsly and I cant stand it being that lose while pulling a fully loaded cases. It feels like it will snap off.

I was going to screw the mesh kit (ordered separately) in but opted for another choice: velcro this mesh kit in!

I went to OSH and bought: (3) Velcro Industrial Strength 2" x 4" packs. Each pack came with 2 sets of 2" x 4" velcro strips. Just search for "Velcro - Industrial Strength Sticky-Back Hook & Loop Fastener Strips, 4 x 2".

This is great for me, in case I want to remove the mesh kit and put the foam sheet within the lid area. And it's great if I want to completely take the entire contents (mesh kit + divider pads) out and use the pelican case for something else---like packing clothes or other gear.

***I also let the velcro parts sit separately so the adhesive would dry properly (I read somewhere to give it 24 hours before it can guarantee it's full strength or something).

Hope this helps someone!

Extremely durable. I use as my everyday work-case instead of a rolling briefcase which cost about $100 each and last, in my line of work, maybe six months. I've had almost two years now and after a few modifications the Pelican case works great. First thing I did was add the lid organizer and then ditched the wheels. The stock Pelican wheels couldn't handle the cobblestones here in Sydney, so I went on Amazon and ordered some inline skate wheels. I bought shoulder bolts of the some same diameter of the bearings from a local hardware store and mounted them on the outside of the stock wheel housings. This makes the case no wider, but adds ground clearance and better stability because wheel base is increased by about two inches. Take note Pelican: the wheels are a great shortcoming along with the weight; but, not much I can do about the weight.

2019 UPDATE: I've used this thing daily for more than five years. It's been all over the world, beat up, mistreated, and abused. It's fallen off of trucks, been run over, and dropped 20 feet out of an aircraft cargo hold. It's scratched, gouged, nicked, and generally looks like crap. However, it still works perfectly and has never failed me. Neither have the wheels.

At one point I used it to bring wine back from Chile and Argentina. Six bottles fit perfectly (along with the basic necessities for a three day trip) and never has one broken. There is a reason it isn't cheap. You get what you pay for.

This is the quintessential wheeled carry-on camera case for airline travel. You can relax knowing your expensive gear is safe with normal bumps and handling, although I doubt there is any case that eliminates all worry. The lifetime warranty lets you know Pelican stands behind its product, but remember that only includes damage to the case, not your equipment inside, so insurance is still a necessity. Durable, waterproof, shock absorbing and built like a tank. It holds a large amount of gear with adjustable foam dividers to configure how you want. You probably will not use all of the dividers included, but depends on your equipment. The wheels are strong and roll efficiently while the latches are resistant to abuse and can be used with TSA approved locks. The trolley handle is solid ABS plastic and extends or retracts with a structural latch rather than mechanical one. If you must check-in camera and lenses, or routinely have other people handling your equipment, this is the carry-on case you want to get. However, the protection comes with several trade-offs compared to camera bags: 1. This case is very heavy even when empty. 2. The latches take extra effort to open and close. 3. The wheels are inset and take up room inside the case at the corners. 4. The lid has a foam pad, but not any pockets unless you buy the optional lid organizer. 5. There are no exterior compartments for quick access to small items.

The is the most versatile piece of luggage I have, I've gotten many compliments while travelling! I love that it fits perfectly in to the overhead bin of a commercial aircraft. The whole case is very durable, from the handles to latches and wheels. This is my 5th and largest Pelican case and as I've experienced with my others, it is again a wonderful product. I recommend getting the lid organizer and dividers. It is a multi-purpose case for me... I have used as a weekend bag without the dividers and primarily for clothes, and also as a waterproof case for camera and laptop gear with the dividers. It's easy to lock with a standard combination lock, it has fallen out of the car a couple times and hit the ground with force, and also had 100s of other lbs. of gear stacked on it in the back of a pickup, each time the contents remained fully safe from the elements/weight. I'm very happy with this product and will continue to buy the Pelican brand.
