Taaaack Sharp. I've heard it described as "clinical". I have to agree. I own this, the 16 1.4, and the 35 1.4, and this lens is usually my go-to. This 23 1.4 is just tack sharp wide open all the way to f11 or f14. I love this lens. you can read many reviews elsewhere about it. Now Fuji has the 23mm F2 which is almost 1/2 price of the 1.4 but I have to say I would not move tot he F2 lens at all. The extra stop of light, and the beautiful bokeh is worth the extra price.
You really can't go wrong with this excellent lens. I own several Fujifilm XF lens and this one spends the most time on my X-T2. It is my favorite angle of view and has a wonderfully wide (f/1.4) aperture for low light/low ISO situations. Virtually no distortion, no flare, no problems. The glass is housed in a solid metal body that should last a lifetime or two. Has a "clutch" focus ring that when out is locked into auto-focus and pulled in to the camera enables manual focusing. While this allows you to manually focus with the camera in AF-Single mode you will not have the Manual focus assist in the viewfinder - recommend putting the camera and lens in manual focus mode for the best results. The aperture ring is a little too easy to move and suggest you double check the setting before shooting. The resulting photo colors are accurate, the exposure is bright, and the image is sharp. I have yet to be disappointed.
My favorite lens- rarely leaves the camera. It's all true- astonishingly sharp, fast to focus and built like a tank. I used this on my secondary camera at a wedding (first is a Nikon D800) and I could not be happier. I ended up using this camera for anything that didn't need a flash. The people pictures were just gorgeous. The low-light pictures had great color and contrast, which is sometimes a problem. Sharpness and bokeh created great subject isolation- in fact I shot at f/1.4 most of the time and the results were amazing. If you have an XT-1, you need this lens.
Perfect. Thats all I need to say. It is small, made of metal, fits perfectly in my hands and has a hard stop on the focus. Perhaps one of my favorite physical parts of this lens is the way it quickly goes to manual/auto focus. Just pull the focus ring towards the front to make it manual focus or pull it back to the aperture ring for auto focus(also another great touch since I am a full manual kinda guy minus White Balance).
The lens is solid and beautiful. It is super sharp at f/2 and very functional at f/1.4. There is little distortion which is great for the 35mm (on full frame/ film) equivalent focal range. It has slight chromatic Aberrations when wide opened but disappears once it is stopped down a bit. If Fuji makes all their lenses like this, Fuji will quickly take the cake for the nicest lenses around. I say this from my professional experience using Nikon and Canon plus pro lenses for years.
Wonderful lens. Perhaps a little larger than I'd prefer attached to my X-T10, but it's not actually large, and is capable of producing wonderful images, even wide open. If I don't want to carry extra lenses, this is the one I attach most times as the wide-normal 35mm-equivalent focal length is very versatile. Build quality is really top-notch. I love the aperture ring that it and all Fuji XF lenses have, and although I do not use manual focus very often, the pullback clutch collar is a neat design. My only minor gripe is that 1) the distance scale does not have enough markings to be very useful and 1b) presumably because it has a manual distance scale, the camera will not show one in the viewfinder (the 14mm and presumably the other lenses with the clutch collar design also work this way).

I got my 23mm F1.4 on sale new from amazon around black friday, and that lens is just stellar. Being 23mm it doesnt need a lot of shutter speed to be sharp and its sharp right from F1.4 up with the smoothest bokeh ive ever laid my eyes on. 35mm focal length is incredible. i do portraits, landscapes, cars, food, it works for everything except alligators and tigers. :-) for those id rather use the 55-200mm...
I do have one minor gripe, and during video (not like anyone uses fuji for that) focus is kinda noisy. most of us know better then to use autofocus during video, but just in case....
I'm a long time Fujifilm user, and I wanted to get myself a versatile all-around lens. My research led me to the well reviewed 23mm F1.4. What attracted me to this lens was the sharpness, large aperture and focal length. The focal length is wide enough to shoot landscapes and street scenes, while being just intimate enough to focus on a single subject. The focal length works great for portraits, especially if you want to capture more of the surrounding scene.
In low light, the lens produces sharp images. Even wide open at f1.4, the images don't show any softness. The large aperture lets you blur the background beautifully.
The lens is built very well, with an all metal construction. It's on the heavier side.
The aperture ring has a nice firm click to it. It's much better than the 14mm f2.8 aperture ring, which is quite loose.
Overall, I'm very happy with this lens. I purchased a used version for $719, which is a steal for the type of images you will get (check out some sample images I posted). I plan to keep this lens for a long time!
I'm able to accomplish amazing things with just this one lens. The sharpness, rendering, and color delivered by this lens is something to behold. Distortion is very well controlled as well. This very compact lens will also add a significant boost to your camera's low light performance (especially combined with the IBIS on the Fuji X-H1). I took a number of test shots at F1.4 and after seeing the results, I shoot wide open when needed without hesitation. It's razor sharp at all apertures.
I would almost ding this lens a star for being as large as it is. You can't ding it for much else. Optics are fantastic. The lens renders very nicely, and is extremely well behaved even wide open. Shoot at f/1.4 with impunity. Build quality is excellent. Clutch MF feels great and is well implemented. Ergonomically the lens is great as well. My only complaint would be the size. The 35mm equivalent focal length is a bread and butter lens for a lot of shooters, and this lens is definitely getting a bit beefy on the X cameras. It's the lens that made me add a grip to the body to balance things out. I could have lived with it being f/2 and half the size. At the end of the day it is what it is - this is the price you pay for f/1.4. Aside from the size there is nothing to complain about here. This lens is fantastic.
Fuji has provided some incredible glass. Color, contrast and focus are amazing.
I originally had the XF 35mm F1.4 on my XT-1....a great lens. But it was a bit long for how I wanted to use the XT-1. The XF 23mm F1.4 is now the perfect match. Even though this lens is larger than the 35mm F1.4, it is still very comfortable and easy to carry around. It is much less obtrusive than my 5D mk iii. I have used this lens on a couple of lifestyle shoots side by side with my 5D with a 70-200. It is a nice combination.
